Do I need to fast before my blood draw?

Whether you need to fast depends on the type of test ordered by your provider.

  • Fasting tests (like glucose or lipid panels) usually require no food or drink except water for 8–12 hours before your draw.

  • Non-fasting tests do not require any special preparation.

Always follow your provider’s instructions. If you are unsure, contact your doctor before your appointment.

✅ Tip: Drinking water before your appointment helps make your veins easier to access. Usually it is best to be sufficiently hydrating at least 24 hours before your appointment.
